10 Stunning Medium Length Hairstyles

For most of us, shoulder-length is the sweet spot for creating looks that feel finished but not overdone. It is the absolute best length ever because it is super flattering on most face shapes and tends to be much bouncier than longer cuts.

Of course, that does not mean you are limited in how you style it. You can still wear it up, or down, or anywhere in between. Today I am featuring the cutest, sexiest medium-length hairstyles to elevate your everyday look.

1. Shoulder-Length Layered Haircut

You can never go wrong with a classic. Adding some bouncy layers to a shoulder-length cut is a tried-and-true method for pumping up the volume and body.

This hairstyle remains a go-to staple because it simply works… and there is no need to fix what isn’t broken, right?

2. Space Buns

Space buns are such a fun, quirky trend that has stayed popular for the last few years.

While this style works with any hair length, I think they look insanely cute on medium-length hair.

3. Blunt Cut

I have chatted about this before when discussing my fave celebrity styles… but I am absolutely obsessed with the simplicity of Dua Lipa’s hair.

Her look changes often (as celebs do), but she consistently returns to this medium-length blunt cut.

While layers are amazing for movement, blunt cuts are the secret weapon for making fine hair appear much thicker.

4. The Wavy Lob

The wavy lob is hands down one of the best medium length hairstyles of all time… particularly when you pair it with balayage color. It is super on-trend but maintains that low-maintenance vibe… though you might need to use an iron if you don’t have natural waves.

The good news? Steph Willis has this amazing tutorial that teaches you exactly how to wave it out with a flat iron (just be sure to use a high-quality heat protectant!).

5. Half-Up Mohawk Braid

This is basically one of my favorite new looks, and it works so well on medium length hair. It is such a fun way to wear a half-up style while adding a little extra flair.

I know braids can seem intimidating, but trust me… Missy Sue will show you just how easy it is to pull this off.

6. Twist Bangs

I love twisted bangs because they are an easy way to dress up any hairstyle. However, they look so adorable when paired with a trendy bob haircut.

7. Low Ponytail with Mega Volume

If your hair isn’t super long, making a high ponytail look good can be hard. However, there are some cool tricks to help your hair look longer in a low pony.

… and even if you skip the tricks, a low ponytail just looks better on shorter cuts.

Plus, adding that volume makes any ponytail look incredible.

Once again, Kate from The Small Things Blog has a killer tutorial that you will absolutely love:

Updos are a super fun way to spice up your everyday hair. Whether you are heading to a wedding or just to the office, a braided half-updo is perfect for any occasion.

Both Kate from The Small Things Blog and Milabu are total miracle-workers when it comes to creating medium length hairstyles that are actually easy to do.

I definitely recommend checking out their other content if you want to see more styles like this.

9. The Modern Shag

The modern shag is a medium layered cut that features shorter layers and tons of texture. It is easily one of the most popular haircuts of modern times.

This video by Free Salon Education shows how impressive modern shag haircuts really are, and also how to cut one.

10. Long Angled Bob

Angled bobs are still going strong after 12+ years, and stylists keep finding ways to reinvent this look.

In recent years, long bobs have become even more popular than shorter ones, making it more of a medium-length cut.

This is easily one of my favorite variations of the traditional A-Line.

11. Half-Up Messy Bun

The half-up topknot is often paired with the mohawk braid, but it can also stand on its own.

Like other styles on this list, it works with any length of hair but is absolutely stunning on shoulder-length hair.

Final Thoughts

Medium-length hair is so versatile and looks flattering on most people. With the right haircut and a little hairstyle inspo, you will be ready to rock it.
